RFI gets the green light: work begins on restoring the railway line under the bridge

Yesterday morning, work began in the Campasso area to remove the debris from the hundred metres of railway blocked by the collapse of the Morandi bridge. The preparatory phase of securing the construction site will last around 5 days, according to the Italian Railway operator, RFI. Subsequently, the actual restoration work will begin on the tracks, on the track bed and on the electrification line. In all, another 20 days are expected. The objective is to restart two out of three lines within the first ten days of October. Clearance to proceed arrived yesterday afternoon from the Civil Defence of Genoa. At the moment, operations to secure the worksite have started, with protection barriers and other interventions required by the Civil Defence to start the work being implemented. These interventions will allow the reopening of the ‘submarine’ line, which is used for transporting goods between Sampierdarena and the port, and the `bastioni´ line, which connects Ovada, Milan and Turin to Sampierdarena and then to Principe Station.
