The new road system for heavy goods vehicles will be opened by the 20th September

The new road system for heavy goods vehicles will be opened by the 20th September, as stated by Major Marco Bucci and president of Regione Liguria, Giovanni Toti during a meeting with all the shipping community last 5th September. The system has been defined and will be submitted for final approval in the coming days. Some
parts of it have already been involved in the asphalting work entrusted to the Pavimental
company of the Autostrade Group.
The route
From the airport roundabout, turn right and go
past the Derrick container depot. From there, enter Ilva and continue on the
road to the north of the plant, up to the Erzelli2 depot area.

This area will feature the construction (at a
later stage) of a fully-equipped lorry park, dedicated to hauliers obliged to
stop on account of traffic congestion or for exceeding hours of driving and use
of the vehicle.
Passing the container depot, enter the Via San
Giovanni D’Acri roundabout and from here, continue along the Ponte del Papa
bridge. At the moment, the existing guardrails are being removed in order to
permit two-way transit on the bridge. The work will, however, be expanded, and
this will occur in two phases: temporary work on the sea side of the existing
bridge carried out by Military Engineers, and definitive work to be carried out
upstream of the existing temporary bridge (Fincantieri Construction).
Having crossed the bridge you reach the Derna area,
and from here you can continue towards Viale Africa or towards the elevated port
road. Work is underway to remove the two sidings between Derna and Viale
Africa, by Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority, to allow the stretch to be asphalted.

At the same time as the new road system within
Ilva, the works in Lungo mare Canepa will be completed, which envisage three
lanes from West to East, one of which (the one nearest the harbour wall)
dedicated exclusively to heavy goods traffic. Furthermore, Via Sampierdarena will
be opened with a double lane for entering Via di Francia (the route dedicated to
city traffic).
In the beginning, the Municipality does not
envisage any obligation for heavy goods vehicles to follow the new route within
Ilva, so as to have time to monitor the impact on road conditions and, if
necessary, to modify some routes during the course of construction.
For the opening date on 20 September, however, the works for the new
international gate, which will be built near the Via San Giovanni D’Acri
roundabout, will not have been finished; hence, only vehicles
transporting domestic cargo or empty containers will be able to use the road at
first.
Subject to the results of the bridge stability
is the reopening of Trenta Giugno road, which would allow the Genova Bolzaneto tollbooth
to be connected directly with the Cornigliano area and the port area. At the
moment, work is in progress on asphalting the stretch from the roundabout to Via
Muratori.
